DESCRIPTION
ChiselTop is a high strength industrial floor designed to provide extra heavy duty protection against impact and abrasion like Concrete Epoxy Floor Coatings.

The patented ChiselTop system uses advanced polymer technology in conjunction with an iron-filled cementitious mortar to provide a topping that gives an appreciably longer service life than hardened concrete or conventional silica-filled epoxy floors.

FUNCTION
The primary use of ChiselTop is as a high strength floor topping for industrial service where severe mechanical abuse is anticipated.

TYPICAL APPLICATIONS

  • Heavy equipment manufacturers
  • Equipment maintenance facilities
  • Loading Docks
  • Waste transfer facilities
  • Other industrial areas where heavy equipment is used

FEATURES
ChiselTop allows for a fast application and minimum downtime where superior wear resistance is required.

ChiselTop has approximately eight times the wear resistance of standard concrete and a significantly higher energy absorbing capacity, making its overall toughness much greater than standard concrete and silica-filled epoxy floors.

ChiselTop can be installed over most sound floors including old or new concrete and many types of repair mortars. At varying thicknesses up to 1/2 inch, the ChiselTop system provides long term protection from severe mechanical abuse.

OTHER FEATURES INCLUDE:

  • Totally non-porous
  • Odor-free

MIXING
Prior to application, the ChiselTop (Resin, Hardener, and Silica) and the substrate should be between 65 degrees and 95 degrees F.

APPLICATION
ChiselTop is applied in a two-step process with a power trowel finish to provide a hard, smooth surface. The first step is accomplished with conventional hand-troweling or screed raking. Screed raking is generally preferred because of the uniformity in thickness that can be achieved. An aggregate broadcast is required for proper filling of the system. The surface should be saturated and the excess removed after the material has set.

A coat of ChiselTop primer is then applied over the exposed aggregate, followed immediately by application of the iron-filled mortar.

SAFETY
ChiselTop contains proprietary blend of binders. Protective clothing and gloves are recommended to prevent sensitization to these materials. In case of ingestion or eye contact, contact a physician immediately. MSDS are available for this product upon request.

PACKAGING & COVERAGE
ChiselTop is available in 100 and 1000 square foot units based on 1/4 - 3/8 inch applications. Each unit consists of pre-measured components of binders and iron-filled mortar. Application thickness may vary from 1/4 to 1/2 inches, depending on the expected service conditions.

CURE TIME
The cure time of ChiselTop and other resinous systems are very dependent upon the temperature of the substrate. The ambient temperature may not be the same as the substrate temperature. For example during winter, concrete may be colder than the surrounding ambient temperature. As temperatures during the day may increase, large masses of concrete will be much slower to react. During summer days direct sunlight will increase the concrete temperature over that of ambient air. The substrate temperature should be monitored and remain at or above 65
oF.

CLEAN-UP
All mixing and application equipment should be cleaned immediately after use. If this is done, soap and water, or biodegradable cleaners can be used. If the material has begun to set, more aggressive solvents may be necessary. Before using solvents, refer to their respective MSDS for handling considerations.

WARRANTY
For product warranty see ChemProof Polymers, Inc. "Standard Limited Warranty." If one is not included with this literature contact your local distributor or ChemProof Polymers, Inc. for a copy.

STORAGE & SHELF LIFE
ChiselTop should be stored at 50-90
oF out of direct sunlight. All containers should remain unopened until ready for use. If stored as set out above, ChiselTop has a minimum shelf life of one year.

WHERE CHISELTOP SHOULD NOT BE INSTALLED
ChiselTop should not be applied over substrates:

  • subject to hydrostatic pressure
  • which are unsound
  • which are contaminated and cannot be cleaned
  • at temperatures below 65oF (consult ChemProof Polymers, Inc.)
  • which are in contact with aggressive chemicals
